Kansas City, MO (August 21, 2026) — Newmark Zimmer recently hosted its biennial Heartland Industrial Summit at The Loews Kansas City Hotel, bringing together more than 150 industrial commercial real estate professionals from across the nation for an afternoon focused on market trends, investment, development, transportation and the evolving industrial landscape.

Hosted by Mark Long, President and Chief Executive Officer, Principal, and John Hassler, Executive Managing Director of Newmark Zimmer, the summit provided an opportunity for industry leaders, investors, developers and professionals to connect and exchange insights on the issues shaping the industrial commercial real estate sector.

The event featured a series of industry presentations, an industrial capital markets panel, a keynote address and multiple networking opportunities, creating a forum for meaningful discussion and collaboration among professionals from throughout the United States.

The summit opened with a National Industrial Market Review and Outlook, presented by Lisa DeNight, Managing Director and Head of North American Industrial Research at Newmark. DeNight provided an overview of current industrial market conditions and discussed key trends and factors influencing the outlook for the national industrial sector.

Eric Goodman, CPKC Business Development and Transload, followed with a presentation on the State of U.S. Rail and Impact on the Midwest, examining the role of rail infrastructure and transload operations in supporting industrial development, logistics and economic activity throughout the Midwest.

The afternoon continued with Korb Maxwell, Partner and Capital Solutions Chair of the Real Estate and Economic Development Practice at Polsinelli, who presented Data Center Investment, Development, and Entitlements. Maxwell explored the rapidly evolving data center sector and the investment, development and entitlement considerations influencing opportunities in this growing segment of commercial real estate.

The panel featured Brad Sweeney, Senior Vice President at STAG Industrial; Alex Foshay, Executive Vice Chairman and Divisional Head of International Capital Markets at Newmark; and Brian Diedrichsen, Managing Partner of NewStreet Properties. Hoenig offered a broad economic perspective, providing attendees with insight into monetary policy, economic conditions and the factors influencing the commercial real estate industry.
