Globe Building
Newmark Zimmer played a key role in selling the Globe Building, also known as the Think Big Building, a 43,000-square-foot historic office building located at 1712 Main Street in the Crossroads Arts District of Kansas City. Built in 1902 and designed by architect James Hogg, this seven-story brick structure originally served as a storage warehouse with commercial offices on the first floor. For the first 75 years of its existence, the building functioned in this capacity before it fell into vacancy in the 1970s.
Instead of facing demolition, the Globe Building underwent a transformative rehabilitation due to the efforts of forward-thinking city planners and a creative tax credit scheme that supported the reuse and repurposing of historic structures. The current owners purchased and revitalized the building in 2013, turning it into a modern coworking space.
Today, the Globe Building offers contemporary amenities while preserving its historic character. It features glass-walled offices, shared workspaces, and an event venue, all enhanced by exposed brick walls, original hardwood floors, and wood-beam ceilings. The building retains its iconic large painted advertising murals on its north and south faces, which pay homage to its past. Its convenient location near the KC Streetcar line adds to its appeal, making it a prominent and accessible landmark in Kansas City’s vibrant Crossroads Arts District.
